Social Professional Networking Group Now 2,500 Members Strong
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (Oct. 19, 2017) – It started with a happy hour. Five years later, hundreds of professionals from South Jersey gather in or around Atlantic County once per month to network, mingle and make connections during a SoPro mixer. SoPro, short for social professionals, provides unique opportunities for young professionals to connect and advance their careers in the greater Atlantic City area at a time when social networking too often happens behind a phone or computer screen.
The idea to make networking more social again came to life in August of 2012, when the founding members, Sheila Hughes, Michael Gibson, and Michael Salad – all attorneys at Cooper Levenson at the time, held the first SoPro mixer at the Golden Nugget. “On that night we knew we had something special. It was like we had captured lightning in a bottle.” Gibson said.
“Networking is about creating a history,” explained Hughes. “When you have history with people you are more likely to want to do business with them and you’ll want them to succeed. SoPro, AC gives the younger professionals of the greater Atlantic City region a chance to write our own history and a chance to steer our own future.”
While their careers brought them down different roads (Hughes is now Staff Counsel for Military Assistance Project, Gibson is a partner and a certified civial trial attorney at D’arcy Johnson Day and Salad is a partner with Cooper Levenson), they all still keep in touch and attend as many SoPro events as their schedules will allow.
“Networking is about establishing relationships with people from a broad array of professions and cultivating those relationships over many years and connecting people with one another,” said Salad, who splits his time between Florida and South Jersey but always attempts to be in South Jersey for SoPro events.
Anyone can become a SoPro member and events are free, you just have to register. The next event will be Wednesday, October 25 at Phillips at the Playground in Atlantic City from 6-8pm. To register, visit http://soproac.com/events.
